DSO to grow TV Advertising Market by $400m annually – Lai Mohammed

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has said that Digital Switch Over (DSO) would grow Television advertising market in the country by 400 million dollars (about N16 billion) per annum. The minister stated this on Thursday at the launch and roll out of digital switch over for television broadcasting in Abuja. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports the launching and roll out of the DSO was performed by President Muhammadu Buhari, who was represented by his Vice, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo. Speaking on the advantages of DSO, Mohammed said 30 free digital channels would be available to TV viewers in Abuja. He said the viewers would have free and easy access to Government and Public information through a touch of the remote control. Comedian Escapes Lynching By Thugs Over Jokes About Governor Okowa

Nigerian comedian and musical artiste Moye Idowu, aka Maleke, on Wednesday narrowly escaped being lynched by thugs allegedly working under the instructions of the governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa. Narrating the incident to SaharaReporters, a police officer who witnessed the show said that Maleke, who was hired to entertain the audience at the 2016 Ika Carnival in Agbor, headquarters of Ika South local government area of the state, made jokes on stage about the governor. "After thrilling the crowd first with some musical dance steps at the 2016 Ika Carnival, Maleke began to crack some very expensive and mocking jokes on the state governor using some harsh words on Okowa,” the witness said. “After a time some thugs working with the governor, who is from Ika, made several attempts to stop Maleke but he continued. Women, girls are two-thirds of trafficked victims, one-third children – UN

No less than two-thirds of trafficked victims are women and girls while one-third of the victims of human trafficking are children, the UN Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), said on Wednesday. UNODC Executive Director, Yury Fedotov, disclosed this on Wednesday at the launch of the 2016 UNODC Global Report on Trafficking in Persons. According to a new report from the UNODC, the vast majority of all human trafficking victims – some 71 per cent – are women, girls and children. “Trafficking for sexual exploitation and for forced labour remain the most prominently detected forms. “But victims are also being trafficked to be used as beggars, for forced or sham marriages, benefit fraud, or production of pornography,” Fedotov said. Woman beats 10-year-old girl to death in Lagos

The police in Lagos State have arrested a middle-aged woman, Linda Alapa, for allegedly beating her 10-year-old housemaid, Joy Mbafan, to death. Mbafan lived with the suspect on Bolanle Oduniyi Street, Okegbegun, in the Ikorodu area of the state. It is said  that Alapa was flogging the girl for a misdemeanor around 3am last Monday when she passed out and died afterwards.At the Ikorodu General Hospital morgue where she had gone to deposit Mbafan’s corpse, a doctor on duty was said to have noticed marks of violence on the body and alerted the police at the Sagamu Road Division. A police source told our correspondent that after interrogation, Alapa confessed to beating the girl, adding that she would be charged with murder.“She wanted to absolve herself of the death of the victim, but for the doctor on duty who raised the alarm after a close examination and she was arrested. Policeman fights truck driver, loses gun over N500

A yet-to-be identified policeman in the Odogunyan area of Ikorodu, Lagos State, is in the eye of the storm after he was caught on camera fighting with a truck driver and his friends in the community. The policeman was seen in the video struggling with the three men during which his rifle fell off. One of the men was seen escaping with the rifle as the policeman later jumped into the truck.The man recording the incident was overheard saying repeatedly, “You don’t have sense,” while another man beside him screamed, “Snap them; run away with the gun. You are a stupid policeman. You have been caught on camera. You are done for.” The man recording the drama said, “You are a fool. You will be sacked. You don’t have sense,” before an observer of the scene said, “This is the second time he will be doing this.                                                      39 year old rapper and Fashion designer, Kanye West, has cancelled the 2017 European leg of his Saint Pablo Tour according to  a report published today by TMZ. Kanye was rushed to the UCLA for an apparent breakdown following his wife, Kim's robbery in Paris and the anniversary of his mum's death, and according to TMZ, the rapper has now cancelled the European tour billed for UK, Germany and Paris in 2017.   The report reads: The second leg of Kanye West's Saint Pablo Tour has not just been put on hold ... it's been outright cancelled ... The Federal Executive Council on Wednesday approved a whistleblowing policy to check fraud in both public and private sectors. Finance Minister Kemi Adeosun disclosed this to State House reporters after the FEC meeting chaired by President Muhammadu Buhari. She said the policy, devised by her ministry, is to encourage anyone with information about a violation, misconduct or improper activity that impacts negatively on Nigerians and government to report it. Leicester chairman Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha on Wednesday rated England striker Jamie Vardy’s three-match ban as ‘unfair’. Vardy received the suspension from the Football Association (FA) for his sending off against Stoke City at the weekend.
