The news of the release of the first group of more than 200 schoolgirls abducted two and half years ago from their school in Borno state by the Boko Haram terrorists has brought relief and hope for the rescue of the rest of the girls. The insurgents handed over 21 missing Chibok schoolgirls to Nigerian government on October 12, Thursday, as part of a deal brokered by the International Committee of the Red Cross and the Swiss government.   Some of the Chibok girls are resting and enjoying a little refreshment in Banki, Nigeria, near the Cameroonian border on October 13, Thursday. The girls are being taken to the northeastern city of Maiduguri, where they will meet with the governor of Borno state, officials in the state. The names of the girls were not immediately revealed. But the allegations come just days after damaging revelations about Trump – a recording from 2005 was published where he made a series of vulgar and sexually predatory comments about women. Kidnapped four pupils and two teachers of Lagos State Model College, Igbonla Epe, were ferried to safety in two speedboats by their abductors on Tuesday, it was learnt yesterday. The victims – Abu, Emmanuel Okonkwo, Jeremiah Ruth, Isaac Adebisi – Junior School Vice Principal A. O. Oyesola and English teacher Lukman Oyerinde, were dropped off inside a forest where they trekked for over two hours before meeting their relatives. Our reporters learnt that they were asked to walk in a line and not look back until they got to the point where family members had waited for over four hours. The vice principal led the pack and the English teacher was asked to stay at the rear, leaving the pupils in-between. The victims were taken to the Epe General Hospital for check-up.  Some of them were diagnosed with typhoid and malaria. The father of one of the victims said: “They spent many hours at the hospital and were later moved to a house in Epe where the principal addressed them. “

                                The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Wednesday vowed that the wife of ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Patience, will never go scot-free if its investigation against her produces evidence that she was involved in any corrupt practices. The EFCC Deputy Director of Operations, Mr. Iliyasu Kwarbai, said this after receiving a petition against Patience and the ruling All Progressives Congress from a group of protesters, under the aegis of Human Rights Defenders and Advocacy Centre, who marched to the EFCC office in Ikoyi, Lagos. In a major shake-up, about 21 senior officials of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria were on Wednesday.  Those affected, including directors, general managers and deputy general managers, were reportedly handed their termination of appointment letters. No fewer than 10 general managers were also reportedly demoted. They were said to have earlier been improperly promoted. It was learnt from an official of the Ministry of Aviation that the sacking was the first batch of the shake-up planned by the government to reposition FAAN.

Dr Mohammed Abdullahi of the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, on Wednesday said habitual knuckle cracking impairs the functions of the hand. Abdullahi said the habit may lead to swelling of the hand, lower grip strength, knuckle pads, and injuries.He however said that it had no link with arthritis, but could lead to dislocation of fingers and overstretched ligaments. The medical expert noted that though some people experience “therapeutic release” upon cracking their knuckles, the potential damage outweighs any psychological benefit.“Habitual knuckle cracking is linked with hand swelling and reduced grip strength, suggesting that repeated act might gradually damage soft tissue in the hand.“In some cases, the desire to crack could be an attempt to ease ligament stress that is already present,” he said.Abdullahi added that the habitual knuckle cracking was also associated with other potentially damaging activities like repeated manual labor.
