What Eagles need to qualify for AFCON World Cup – Yesufu
Cadbury’s Head of Corporate and Government Affairs(West Africa) Bala Yesufu has expressed hopes that the Super Eagles will soon find their rhythm in their bid to pick the tickets to the 2017 African Cup of Nations and 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
Eagles are locked in a two-way horse race with Egypt for next year’s AFCON while they await the draw for the group stage of the Russia 2018 World Cup to be made next summer.
Speaking in an interview with Saturday Vanguard Sports in Lagos, Yesufu said it was important for the Eagles to quickly rediscover their rhythm before the next matches in the qualification series resume next March.
Wile admitting that he has little confidence in the current Eagles squad of Coach Sunday Oliseh, Yesufu urged all stakeholders to offer their technical and tactical support to the team to achieve their AFCON and World Cup targets.
“I have to admit that I don’t have much confidence in them right now but I hope that with time they will be able to take us to the height that we desire. I don’t know why the Eagles continue to disappoint us.
“I feel we really need to know why they have not reached half of their true potentials. I mean in a country of over 170 million people, I don’t know why we cannot get 21 quality players to represent this country. It’s appalling. However I hope that all stakeholders will join hands to ensure that the team get back on track because it is our collective responsibility to help them qualify.
“Their failure is ours but I am confident that they will get their acts in order and pick up the pieces to seal qualification when the matches resume next year”, added Yesufu.
