Serial kidnappers arrested while withdrawing ransom from bank

Operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Rivers State Police Command have smashed a kidnap gang responsible for numerous kidnap cases in Eleme area of the state.

Acting on a tip-off, the operatives were able to arrest Stanley Mgbiri, Mkpowu Blessing and Micheal Hope. The trio are responsible for the kidnap of a 9-year-old girl, Miracle John, at Igbo Etche. They were arrested when they threatened to kidnap one Osato Nwakaji.


They asked him to pay the sum of N3m into a certain bank account. They threatened to kidnap him as they did to a certain staff of NNPC, from whom they collected a ransom of N12m, and yet killed. As a bait, the sum of N100,000 was paid into their account and when they went to withdraw it, they were arrested.

Film-makers reject dubbing of Chinese films into Yoruba, Hausa

Top indigenous film-makers and actors that include Dele Odule, Jide Kosoko and Tunji Bamisigbin have opposed an alleged plan by a pay-TV provider, Star Times, to broadcast Chinese films dubbed into Yoruba and other indigenous languages. According to them, the development is capable of destroying the indigenous film industry. They spoke at a briefing held at the LTV complex, Ikeja, Lagos, last Wednesday.At the event attended by actors, producers and marketers, including Yemi Solade, Yomi Fash-Lanso, Alhaji Abdullahi Abdurasak and Tunji Ojetola, they called on the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, and the National Assembly to stop the move that they described as one that can cause cultural erosion.
